ASWANG [2022]

“aswang” was a drag.fashion.music event that sparked the start of the spooky season + filipinx heritage month -⊱ featuring an all queer filipinx lineup.
☆☆☆
when creating a collection for this event, i wanted to pay an homage to another filipinx horror icon -⊱
The White Lady [ also known as “la llorona” [mexico], “Dama Branca” [brazil], “yūrei” [japan] ]
creating a six - look collection fully inspired by the icon’s “typical dressing”

welcome to ᴘl𝔞𝑛𝐞t✧𝔠lᵒᵘwd𝐞z ! this collection was influenced by my fascination for tattoos - specifically “mambabatok,” the indigenous tattoo practice found in the Philippines ✫✮⭒ hence, the heavy use of embossed graphics throughout :p my first digital fashion collection was made for lovers of the avant garde, grunge, experimental, and tattoos!!! ✩•̩̩͙*ೃ˚

the implementation of a gender binary was a result of colonization. during pre-colonial times, gender fluidity was present and accepted in filipino society. the babaylan were spiritual leaders who served as mediums, healers, and diviners - they were often women, but also feminine appearing men.
☆☆☆
“ siya ” is a three-look collection that encapsulates the ethereal spirit of the babaylan. referencing traditional and indigenous filipinx dress, layering as an element found in the jewelry and garments.
